Squeaking/Pulley problems on your w203?

How many of you have had pulley problems with your w203? This is my 4th pulley replacement in just 6 months..1 idler pulley and 3 alternator pulleys (belts were also replaced).
It is a squeaking noise when your car is in idle but disappears after the engine warms up.
Is this common for the m271 engine or is it just my car?

No such issue with my 2005 at 46k miles. How many miles do you have?

wow, that's crazy.

I have over 70k miles on my C230 and the pulleys have held up (knock on wood) fine. I've beaten the crap out of the car too.

I haven't heard of other members with problems with their pulleys either.

good luck with everything.

I get something similar if the A/C on the car has been left on at start up for a few seconds.

Kind of like this screechy sound from the engine bay.

Thread hijack... Odessit, there's a guy on here with a high mileage C230 that has had its alternator sprag bearing go out a few times. He described the symptom as a rattling noise and said if it is not caught early, it can ruin your A/C compressor. What year and mileage is your car? This is just a guess based on what I've read on here before. My car has never done this.

I had a pulley squeeking. Took it in, they replaced a whole bunch of parts. Everything working fine. Next say I go to back out of my garage, ** pop ** the belt tentioner broke off the engine block and the belt cut through my fan shroud. Fun times (Y)

Nope. Common failures won't automatically result in a recall. Have you seen the thermostats die recently?

I had a squeaky idler pulley on my 2006. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced it at no cost. The service manager said there was a "service campaign" in effect for the pulley.

I have been noticing some kind of squeaking noise as well, but it mostly happens from a cold start and then goes away. I can't make out exactly where its coming from though...

Did your SA happen to mention which model years are affected and/or covered for the pulley service campaign? My car is nearing 96K miles now and I haven't had to replace any pulleys yet.

This is a notorious problem on the m112k. People that don't install pulley saver kits go through idler pulleys quicker than I eat a can of pringles.

going back to your problem. i dont remember how the engine looks like. but what i would usually do is loosen the other components that the belt goes through. A/C comp, alternator, tensioner and others if there is. that should free up some space for the belt to move.

EDIT: a long heavy duty pry bar should help when moving these things.

on my M111 engine, there is a odd nut that is 15mm in size. Loosen it and the tensioner pulley will give mucho play.

The worst pulley noise I ever had was when I was using a Goodyear Gatorback belt.

I recall my squeak was continuous, but it seemed a little louder with higher RPMs.

My SA did not talk about any other years being affected, but I didn't ask.

My 2006 now has 28K miles now and I clay-barred it yesterday.

when my engine is cold i get a pulley squeak. after driving it a about 30 mins or so it quiets down, but can still hear it. my mechanic said that the idler pulley was a common problem with my car. (engine 272)
i feel his diagnosis is accurate, however, i no longer trust my mechanic. so i have been working on my own car. but, im a strickler for accuracy (OCD) lol. everything to perfection, especially torquing every bolt. lol.
does anyone know the WIS diagrams to complete this job?

better yet, where can i get a good copy of the WIS system?
