More questions about Muffler Delete
I have been looking further into doing a muffler delete on my SL65 as opposed to spending the extra cash on more aggressive mufflers but I have been cautioned that going with a muffler delete as opposed to having mufflers on the car will cause a loss in horse power rather than increasing or keeping it the same. I heard this before but figured with the Cats and Turbos in line how much could it hurt to remove the mufflers. It doesn't appear that a muffler delete has slowed Benz-O-Rama's SL600. Any input from the guys who have done this.

After hearing Benz-O-Rama's audio clip I had the mufflers removed from my SL65. The car sounds amazing. It's especially pleasurable at star tup. I haven't noticed any degradation in performance.
This mod cost me $125 at a local muffler shop.
I took a sound clip of mine with my cell phone but it just doesn't do the sound justice.

I just got finished installing the RENNtech V3 lowering module and that is the only way I would go on lowering after seeing what you can do with this handy device. Any way, I think I am going with the muffler delete for starters on the exhaust to see what the outcome is; cheap and awesome sounding(not much to loose by trying). I hooked up with a local Dyno shop and have an appointment for Wednesday evening to see what the SL65 has in her before any mods. Then I intend to take it there after every mod including exhaust to see the effects....it is the only way to know for sure. I will have pics in the next few days to show what the module is capable of and then the results of the Dyno testing with everything factory stock. I have a friend who is a diesel mechanic and does a lot of custom stainless exhausts for trucks so he said he would weld up some stainless pipe for me to delete the mufflers. He said he has a lot of 6 inch lying around....do you think that would be too big

I had all my mufflors/silencors/cats removed, and replaced them with just straight pipes all the way.
We dynoed before and after, and there was no loss in the HP department.
Nor gain!
But a big gain in sound, since it sounded like a sewing machine to begin with...

December 1st she goes up on blocks for the winter and then I hope to get serious with the mods. I am going to pull the mufflers first and send them over to my friend....he has the TIG welder. Others include ECU/TCU upgrade and new IC Pump. New wheels if I can ever make a desicion.....wish someone made a CF front lip.
Can't wait to hear the uncorked version!
