Just bought this car

I just purchased one of these earlier in the week and I'm awaiting delivery. I was going through some paperwork and I don't think I purchased the 4 years of prepaid service, which I originally wanted. Maintenance costs on a Mercedes are pretty high, so I feel like it's a smart thing to buy, but now I'm not sure. I also have a 2002 C240 and when we bought that, we got the prepaid service so whenever I brought it in for Service A or B, I wasn't charged anything. Is that still how the plan works and do people feel like it's worth it?

It's worth it if you're leasing (assuming they didn't mark up the price - 4yr/40k should be no more than $1275). If you're not leasing, you can get four years of service work done at an indy shop for half that price, and usually even less.

I'm not leasing and they didn't even offer it. But the services are cheaper than I thought and don't include much. I think I'm leaning towards no on that.

Not only that, but Mercedes always found additional things to standard A/B/C services that 'needed' to be done.
That, and the inconsistent service I received in most of the Toronto dealerships (not sure how it is where you're at), would make me very reluctant to buy that package and be tied to Mercedes servicing...even IF it works out to be the same price as independent Mercedes-specialist garages (compared to which it will still be more expensive).

So you're saying don't get it because I'll buy it and they'll find things wrong that aren't covered under the plan anyway?

Yup.

Happened on more than half of my visits. They would always say that yes, a basic service A is $250, but you also need this and that. Basic service C is $400, but you also need this and that.
Note the word 'need', not should or something else. And since you worry about your new Benz, and possible warranty repercussions because it's the dealer telling you to, well...

After a while, I got sick of that treatment and their screwups, so I wrote Mercedes Canada and got it in writing that although they recommend servicing at the dealer, the warranty stays valid as long as proper maintenance is done elsewhere as well. This is the case in Canada, but you may want to double-check in your country too (and get it in writing, like I did, so there are no questions afterwards)
Not only is it cheaper now, there are also many fewer issues with the service itself...albeit you don't sit in a posh lounge and seldom get a loaner/shuttled home.

Same damn thing happens in the UK!

Only once was extra work needed when I paid for my annual service at the time of service.

Took out a service plan and when I took car in, they came up with a long list of extras. Even convinced me to change brake pads that were only 50% worn.

Like you say, one worries about their new car, falls for this scam and approve the unecessary work.

I am prepared for them for my next service which is due in a couple of months. They'll be shocked if they try it on this time round.

BMW's service plan is so awesome... one of the few things that is making it hard to switch.

My car was delivered today and I got the extended warranty, prepaid service and the tire protection. It increased my monthly payment some, but it also seemed like it would cover any out of pocket costs down the line (until the brakes need to be replaced). The dealership I go to is the best I've ever dealt with. They're expensive (much like any Mercedes dealership) but they rarely throw services at me that I don't need. They usually do regular service then tell me what needs to be fixed.

Are these knock off clone tactrix devices on aliexpress any good? $15 vs $170+shipping is a huge markup.

hello lots of great info, but am I missing something it seems. It is for my 2011 R350 W251 gasoline/petrol
I have gone thru this thread and there is so much info an acronyms.

Where do I buy or download the Xentry/DAS software?
It seems like Tactrix open port is a usb to OBD2 adaptor but is not 100% compatible. Am I correct?
(buy it here: https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?pa...ed=1&Itemid=53 )

so, were do I get a genuine "Tactrix or a Sdconnect C4" or C4 Plus.. what is C4 and C4 plus? what is C4 multiplexer?
what is the difference between "Xentry normal version installed, not passthru"?

Is there any other sw or drivers or cable/adaptor that I need?
What is "vediamo"?
what is a bosch VCI or "M-VCI" or "J2534 M-VCI with passthru installed" what is J2534 M-VCI"
I read that it does not do "SBC" Senstronic brake control . What does this limite then? I have done fluid changes/bleeding many times without any problems. I have read that we should set the antilock brake system to somehow better purge the fluid thru the valves. Is this true? Perhaps I have been doing it wrong for 15 years.
I also read it does not work with parktronic. Does this mean I cannot replac/reprogram the parktronic sensors?

what is SCN coding
?

should I just contact MBENZTECH?

thanks
