When you drive the C43 like a Civic or Corolla!

During a trip to CT yesterday, just cruising along like a normal human being, to my surprise I managed this....

Unfortunately after that pic was taken two C63's flew by "forcing" me to abort the "C" mission and join the "S+" party for a few miles.... and to the end of the trip afterword. Below was the total, it's amazing how much of a difference it makes.

I had a 200km round trip last week (hwy) where I used Distronic both ways.

Averaged 7.6l/100km (30.95, basically 31mpg) - highest so far.

Was trying to get it down to 7.0l/100km, but ran out of road, lol.

i need to figure out what you guys are doing to get such good gas milage?!

My daily commute which is 4 miles city and 4 miles highway i get about 22 in e/c mode and 12-16 in S+ mode depending on the day.

On a few longer trips I have seen 27-28 on the high way in eco mode. How are people pulling 30+?

I use 93 premium and usually set cruise at 78 MPH. If you guys are traveling at 60-70 MPH that would probably explain it.

Once you get above 60 (+/-)mph, the drag coefficient of the car starts to come into play vs. the engine rpm being outside of it's most efficient range. Automakers intentionally gear a car in the final ratio to put the engine in the most efficient range at approximately that speed for best fuel mileage so they can get better ratings.

I have the AMG performance exhaust on my coupe and to be honest I'm in S+ mode 95% of the time. The mileage is horrible but if you have this exhaust you understand why it's so hard to drive in any other mode.

I have got all you guys beat, haha. That's 36.1 for all the guys in US.

PS: My bad for the 3.2L typo. It's a 3.0.

Even in comfort mode and traveling 65-70 mph for largely highway driving, I've never seen above 26 mpg.

Not sure how these guys are getting 30 mpg or more!

I can let you guys in on the secret, haha. You guys should go to ECO mode and start using the sail feature more often. For example, I rarely use my brakes. When I see a red light coming, I charge the flywheel and lift off, the car then enters sail mode and literally crawls all the way to stop wasting next to no gas. Also when decelerating or slowing down for a slow poke infront of me, I let the gas go, and sail to a lower speed and then continue again.

Once you figure out how to use the sail feature, this car can compete with civics in terms of gas consumption. The only downside is ours consumes premium gas.

The breadth of this car really surprises me. One moment it can tear apart M4s and S4s, on the other hand it can have mileage like this. Unbelievable.

Took a trip down to the Cape the other week, 2 hours each way, travelling between 65 - 70 mph in ECO mode with two other passengers and WITH the A/C on, the computer display got up to 30.5 mpg at the end of each leg.

What I did notice though is speeds over 70 mph would drag the mileage down.

Wow, very impressed! Glad to hear these mileage claims are not just rare anomalies. I'll definitely have to try eco mode just to see what kind of mileage I can get.

As Munis said, its really impressive that these cars can out perform S4s, M4s etc and or be driven in eco mode and fantastic mileage!

I forgot to mention, that mileage number I gave was WITH my Dinan D-Sport installed...and in "Race" mode.

The way one drives obviously has a lot to do with getting good gas mileage. One has to drive like the game of chess is played, thinking multiple steps in advance before reacting.

Since the wife primarily drives this car...I doubt I'll be seeing that kind of mileage. I don't think I can get her to drive and think several steps ahead before reacting. Oh well, maybe on longer trips when I'm at the wheel I can attempt to see what the best mileage is that this car can get...thanks again!

With Gas a bit tough to find in these parts I tried out ECO mode and hated it, switched to comfort mode and saw 25.5 mpg city driving light traffic compared to 18 mpg in Sport +

Kinda thought of it as driving like a luxury cruiser vs driving like a civic or a corolla. Can't wait to get back to driving it like a performance car.

I normally get 18-25 mpg on my 17mile work commute, it all depends on my mood.

well guys I finally had a chance to take the 17 c43 on a trip this labor day weekend. I was pleasantly surprised.

Traffic was moving pretty good at first. we were doing a cool 80-85 with spurts up to 100-110 with a few other hoons, in mexico of course. The 29.4 mpg was had over 63 miles at around 83mph average. This was in eco mode.

Then we caught up to the holiday traffic. it was stop and go for a bit which killed the average speed. although gas mileage climbed into the 30s for brief periods. Then we were able to get back up to cruising speed and I finished the trip back. 29.7 MPG @ 76mph is really pretty good for this car. This 176 miles included the above mileage earlier in the trip.

Anything under 75mph and I would see 30mpg pretty consistent in eco mode on highway. I am sure 65 mph is the sweet spot and I could see how some of you are getting 33mpg. Pretty impressive for a car rated at 28 MPG with a 0-60 of 4.5 or lower.

I should have taken pics...but while still in the break-in period I was up and back on a 500km round trip and was watching some great mileage build up...
...estimated I'd have gotten about 750km out of a tank while in eco and being nice on the highway...

...but then I passed 1500km and promptly brought that estimated distance to empty down quite precipitously.

These cars are dangerous with an open highway to play with!
