2013 ML350 4matic gas mileage ??
So i've read that the 2013 ML350 model has a 27.7 gallon tank, is that right? thats insanely large for this size car i think. Anyway, are you guys getting 500 miles to the tank in these cars? Im getting about 450-465 to the tank. Which is lower then 19 miles per gallon, between 16-17 miles per gallon, which is awful. We drive the car maybe 1000 miles a month. mostly city driving.

Last week I filled my car in Queensland and re-filled it in Sydney when it was 1/4 full.
That's around 545 miles at Freeway speeds (70mph).
I think driven at Freeway speeds I would expect a minimum of 650 Miles from a full tank and may even stretch to 750.

My manual says that all 2013 ML's, gas or diesel, have a 24.6 US gallon tank (93 litres). When she's filled up, the dash gives me an estimated +/- 950 km.
If you guys are getting the mileage you posted, then what's the use of having a diesel?

I drive the diesel 2014 ML 350 Bluetec. Easily get 22-24 mpg (US). This mostly suburban driving, Average speed of 25 mph. Top speed where I live is 45 mph. Never got less than 20 mpg.

38,000 miles per year is an very high figure, unless you're a professional driver.
For your usage a Diesel makes sense but when I drive my ML only 7,000 or so miles per year it makes sense to drive the gas version.
I do have an old W163 I use as a knock-about vehicle and it uses 30 more fuel than my W166.
It would be interesting to look at the overall cost per mile of running a diesel W166 compared to a gas one over (say) 75,000 miles.
This would need to take into consideration the cost of replacing all the stuff that fails on the diesel.
I actually think the gas version would work out cheaper per mile.

Hah hah...I live in Plano, TX a suburb of Dallas, TX. Posted speed limits in the suburbs is 40-45 mph., on large 3 lane boulevards. If you are not travelling at least 5-10 mph above those speed limits, you will get run off the road.

I just checked my car and it tells me I'm averaging 20.45MP(US)G.
That is both City and Country combined.
3MPG would take a long time to cover the extra maintenance cost of a diesel.
Plus you get to stand in the spilt diesel and handle the dirty nozzle.

That ROI depends on price of Premium fuel vs Diesel fuel. Here where I live, Premium ($2.48) is always more expensive than Diesel ($2.39). And not sure where you are, most of the Diesel pumps around here are right next to the Gasoline pumps.....

I'm based in Sydney Australia and Diesel is usually the same price or higher than Premium gas.
Our Diesel pumps are usually set away from the fuel pumps. If they are next to each other I just purchase fuel elsewhere.
Even at 20c per gallon you would need to cover a minimum of 50,000 miles to pay for one Adblu failure!
I did the math when looking at Diesel or Gas and the gas won hands down in Australia, plus I know it will just go and go.

Thanks - that really explains it well. Have owned an ML55AMG and ML320 - most reliable MBs out of the 17 different ones I have owned. Love the ML350 petrol (as we call in in Kiwiland) has as much 'get up and go' as the 55 without any problems so far, just a light crack in the door veneer (common fault). Petrol consumption is quite good, diesel, even though cheaper at the pump, works out just as expensive as petrol here as we pay a tax for miles traveled when using diesel.
Glad I have bought a gas/petrol version as this forum has put me right off the diesel one.
Would still like to know what the tank size is in my model - please?

I do know Australia gets a particular minimum kit on all W166's regardless of what you want or order. it's been like this for well over 40 years.
For instance we haven't been able to purchase a manual Benz since the 60's.
I believe the 93 litre tank is our standard, and only tank, but Diesel may be smaller. no idea.

you guys getting 500 miles to the tank .......Yes. Doing 75-80 mph west of the Mississippi and south Texas. 2014 ML350 Bluetec with 110,000 miles on it.
Once and only once, I did a drive from Ft Worth to North Padre island, 434 miles, doing a steady 70 mph. I did this in the dead of night so as to not get run over by normal people. No stop signs/lights till the last three miles to the beach.You'd have to pay me big time to make that drive at the slow a pace again.
Memory says it was 31and a bit mpg. Miles driven divided by gallons to refill to the top, not the instrument panel estimate mpg. I'll never do that again. It makes no sense to drive that slow on interstate I-35 and I-37. A normal drive as described above is done at 75mph to 80 mph and some 85 mph plus if you take the hwy 130 turnpike from Georgetown north of Austin to where it intersects I-10 east of San Antonio, about a distance of 85 miles. Normally I do this either way in 5hrs and 30 minutes to 5hr 45 minutes. Not speeding compared to those driving on the hwy with me. A cop won't even put his donut down if your doing 80 in a 75.
I find it beyond beliveable that a gas ML350 can get above 20 mpg driving 75mph to 80 mph ( gallons divided into miles driven, please) any meaningful distance. Sorry but the torque alone in a diesel ML beats out a gas ML

Terrible MPG on my 2013 ML350
I use to get 11.7 mpg in city driving. Averaged about 18-19 on the highway. If it’s a really long distance at highway speeds more like 22-25. After getting my vehicle serviced at a Mercedes dealership for recalls I am now getting 6.4. Wtf did they do?!

11.7mph is the default lowest my mpg meter can go to. I can be idling in my driveway for a full tank of gas and it'll still tell me I"m getting 11.7mpg.
Sounds like they made the meter a bit more accurate in that it can read lower than 11.7 mpg. Is your highway mpg the same?

my Highway is a bit better at 22-25 mpg. I have seen the reader go lower than 11.7 for sure 9-10 even but never lower than that. I have the gas version and I can’t imagine I’ve been only getting 6mpg. That is terrible. I average around 220 miles if only city commuting.
