M157 common engine issues
Hey guys, the ELW warranty on my ‘12 cls63 is about to end soon, what are some common engine issues with the M157 engine? What could I tell the MB dealer to have them check out the car free of charge? The car is currently being serviced for an oil leak to the engine harness.
Issues that I read are common is a stretched timing chain, cylinder scoring to cylinders 1 and 5 due to proximity to turbos, and a seized low pressure fuel pump. How could I get them to check out these issues?
Thank you

can you still buy the elw? I would recommend buying it before your warranty finishes. One major repair would cover the cost of it

I can still buy the extended limited warranty directly from Mercedes but the rates are crazily high compared to a normal non-AMG car. It's triple the prices for crying out loud. What have gone wrong during your ELW period that the dealer fixed?

I am the second owner, the original owner purchased the elw for $5000.
List of repairs under warranty
oxygen sensor
intake manifold gasket
air suspension compressor
air suspension line hose/ valve
cooling system hose
Engine mounts replaced
radiator replaced
rear sunshade and some minor trim items
The car is being repaired right now, there was an oil leak into the engine harness and they are replacing the engine mounts again. The engine mounts were replaced 10,000 miles ago. I believe the issue might be the timing chain and not the engine mounts.

that could be so many things from battery to motor mounts to fuel pump to coil packs and plugs and less likely timing chain with no CEL's

thanks, the service manager informed me that cylinder 1 has very low compression, I’ll have to wait and see what happens from here

Fortunately it is not tuned, I saw black smoke coming out of the car when I was standing behind it once. It wasn’t a lot of smoke. The previous owner had the radiator and other parts of the cooling system replaced so maybe the car overheated and damaged the internals. I’m hoping they can get this all sorted out before the ELW finishes.

service manager just got back to me, he said that cylinder 1 doesn’t have low compression and it was just a faulty fuel injector. Could that actually be the cause or are they trying to get out of replacing the engine.

why would he say it has low compression one day then say it doesnt the next day?

Additionally if it drives amazing then you're fine
the dealer makes a **** ton of cash on an engine replacement so if they needed to do that they would, however they would need Germany's approval

im going to take it to an independent mechanic and have them do a compression test and to inspect the car for all faults before the warranty finishes.

i just need to make sure that the engine is 100% perfect before the warranty finishes. I don’t want to spend $20k to replace the engine after the warranty finishes

On topic with the thread, this was actually done toward the end of the factory warranty. But my SA told me that they would have done the same thing for my ELW if that had been the case.
And Peter is correct. They did have to get approval from a factory rep for the new motor. But it was fast and painless.
