Climate Control Unit from C-Class compatible with G-Class?
Hello guys. I am in the process of replacing all of the broken components on my "like new" W463. My A/C is not working; it is blowing hot air out of one side, cool-ish air out of another side. I have re-charged the freon to full pressure, with no positive results. Since the knob is broken on my climate control unit, I am going to replace that next...
My question is this: The C-Class climate control unit appears to be exactly the same as the G-Class one, and the part numbers even match up after the model identifier. The part number for the G-Class is 4638300185, and the part number for the C-Class is 2098300185.
Does anyone know if the C-Class climate control unit cross-compatible with the G-Class climate control unit?

Depending on the year of your G, yes indeed it is. I googled the P/N you gave and it appears that your G is a 2002 - 2005 and these are directly interchangeable - plug and play. If fact, you can also upgrade to the C320 all-digital controller instead of the analog dials. I did this for my 2003 when I had it. I have the original G controller which I would be glad to sell if I can find it,
Certainly if you have a bad knob on the controller you will want to replace it, however, the issue you describe is more often associated with breakage of the plastic servo arms in the HVAC air handler and/or the duo-valve.

Dude, you are awesome, I really appreciate this knowledge. I think I am going to upgrade to the digital controller as well; what a COOL mod!
Was the digital controller plug-and-play as well? I just ordered one with an included wiring harness.
What you are describing re: the duo-valve seems very likely to be the situation; I greatly appreciate your help. I can probably dig through the forums for the rest of the information I need to get that system operational. I can't say it will help as much up here in Humboldt as it would have during my drive through the 100º+ weather in the valley when I trucked it home, but it will be nice to know that it works ;-)

Yes, the digital version is also plug and play. You likely have to "adapt" (rest) the new controller to your truck by following this simple procedure:

would this also be the case with the 2011 and an equivalent era c or e class? Is this also the case for the upper control panels/light?

Would you be able to point me in the right direction too please.
I also have an AC Playing up . one side hot, both sides hot, than both side cold - all over the place.. i was think of changing the controller but can seem to find a direct replacement on the web.
it is a A463 830 14 85 - 2011 G55
there are a few very similar looking ones on ebay but they are A203 830 17 85. by any chance can you tell if that would work as a replacement?
alternatively is there any harm in trying it if i can buy one cheap?
Thank you.

I know this may sound like a goofy troubleshooting tip, but have you tried a different W209 climate control unit?
I swapped my 2005 G500 temp controller with one from a W209 (part # 2098300285) and everything works. Plus it was only like $50 on eBay.
Good luck.

So although this does technically work, the newer digital style throws a ton of codes in STAR/Xentry. I used the newer digital style from a C203 in my 2005 G55. All of these codes went away when I reinstalled my original CCU.
I found overall that it does work, but doesn't work as well as the original unit - fan control isn't as good, auto setting doesn't work that well, temperature control isn't as good, etc. Not to say that the G Climate Control System is really anything to write home about, but this made it noticably worse.
I also tried calibrating the system to get rid of some of the communication errors, thinking they were calibration limits being different - no such luck.

Just a quick update on my post.
I replaced my controller with a used ebay A203 830 17 85 and on first use it worked perfectly. I test drove it for 20 mins and swapped between cold and hot and A/C on/off and it worked every time.
Fingers crossed it keeps working from now on.

Super easy to replace. remove the ashtray. and two screws on the a/c controller fascia at the bottom.
I purchased just the controller and replaced the fascia panel to keep the old one.
so far it works well. but one issue I noticed yesterday is when I turn the A/C button it actually turns the A/C off and when the button is not illuminated the A/C is on.
But now i have hot/cold working every time so far.
