This is old, and only an illustration by C&D at this point…. I don’t think there has been any formal announcement from MB about a Maybach derivative at this point, I think just speculation. Would be cool though.

Front looks like the C&D rendering. Here is the hood detail...

Also, when it comes to MBUSA, missing or wrong information has been standard fare for as long as I can remember. The future/concept section is incomplete anyway. For a quick test, search for the Mercedes EQT (not worth looking at; just to make a point)
Here is the official press release from Mercedes re. strategy update, Maybach SL preview and Mythos

Are you referring to my post? If so, that would be incorrect as is was a formal presentation.

No structural changes to be sure but I can see some suspension programming, exterior body design/options and more extensive interior upgrades. I would expect no performance upgrades but I think they should really go after the Brabus market which offers near unlimited personalizations at price points well above the Maybach.

I don't know but would expect them to follow Porsche's model of more special editions that are somewhat different or historic, like the speedsters, etc.
To make something collectible, it usually has to be something of small edition series vs a personalized car.
MB did some of that already with the SLR and some became rather valuable (like the Stirling Moss)...

Mythos is about being even more luxurious (exclusive) if I remembered correctly that is what they said.

If the Maybach treatment to the SL is anything like the Maybach treatment to the GLS, it will be a joke. Huge price increase for virtually the same vehicle, with some additional cosmetics. Honestly, the photo shown looks like they just didn’t know what else to do. It looks just SO tarted up. Do we think the Maybach SL will have a retractable wind screen or will the butler get his white gloves dirty installing the removable unit? Maybe they’ll gold plate it.
At least with Porsche and their myriad 911’s, they have offered some truly unique and several fire-breathing performance cars. MB probably won’t go that way with the SL, as it would dilute the purpose of the AMG GT models.

I saw that coming since regular MB vehicles have the stars all over the car from screens, grilles, bumper, bumper vents, projections, headlight, tailights, trim pieces, etc.
Naturally, they would do the same on the Maybach but instead of stars, Maybach logos instead and I guess on steroids as well.

I'm a hardcore SL guy. The R232 has been a nightmare for the company and dealers. I wanted to order the SL63S e but am waiting until the beta testing is over. MB is worrying about expanding the brand. I'd suggest they create more reliable cars first.
Instead, they create the new "PIMP" edition SL.

Is this catered to the Chinese market? It's too ostentatious for me but at least it would be easy to wrap over it.
