CLS 63 full straight pipe

Hi!

New member here.

I have cls 63 amg and I just bought CATLESS downpipes for it. I have already done a cat back pipe with no res or mufflers.

The sound with the oem downpipes and the new customised CAT back was already pretty loud but now after i installed the downpipes with out cat the sound is way to loud in my opinion.

What kind of set up you guys run with the CATLESS downpipes? I was thinking to put the oem mufflers back on so the sound would be a little bit more quieter.

any advice what would be the best solution with CATLESS downpipes?

I personally think that DP's, full 3" and and factory mufflers is best.

how much will this set up make it more quiet?

i was thinking to do exatly that or other option put the resenator back on and see how that would change the sound.

and just to be sure with DP you meant CATLESS downpipes right?

So I came from a m156 c63 that was catless, resonator removed and oem mufflers. Car was loud, mean, not raspy and no drone. I loved that exhaust setup. On my m157 cls63s, the car has catless downpipes, straight pipe resonator and oem mufflers. The car is loud but nowhere as loud as the m156 c63. So hard to gauge the volume but partial throttle, full throttle and revs are about 30-40% quieter on the m157 vs the m156.

The other day I encountered a w212 m157 with catless downpipes, straight piped resonator AND straight piped mufflers on the highway (I only know the mods because I found the guy on facebook). IMO, his car sounded extremely similar to my m156 and was clearly much louder then my cls63 when downshifting and full throttle. Plus with the mufflers removed, the turbo whistle is much more noticeable. It really made me miss the m156 motor so much that I am now debating straight piping my mufflers as well.

In a nutshell, if you want to quiet down your setup, I suggest ONLY putting the OEM mufflers back on. Leave the resonator off.

BTW, do you have sound clips/vids of your full straight piped car?

Hi!

I like the car to be loud. Maybe just not as raspy. Was wondering to put the oem mufflers or maybe keep the mufflers of but put resanator back on.

Guess have to try and see which option I like the most.

here is couple vids, all straight pipe no cats no anything and also ecu has been tuned.

To me it sounds very throaty and deep. I don't really hear the raspiness. I know if you put the mufflers back on it will tone down the overall volume. Maybe start with the resonator first and see if that gets rid of what you don't like.

I'd put the mufflers back on.....I have my secondary Cats removed along with the resonator.....sounds great...just not the muscle car sound, because this is a sport luxury car....!

hey guys, I’m new to these forums but I recently picked this bad boy. Not very knowledgable on downpipes, but I saw this company selling them for a very reasonable price, just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

thanks
