Oil pump solenoid - disconnect?

I ran across this modification, and it sure seems to make a lot of sense for M157 engines - has anyone here heard of this or done it to their G?

@skiracer welcome to the community. Just joined and already looking at mods, I love it!!!! We need more guys like you.

I am intrigued and willing to try it. I looked in engine bay and in W463 M157, I can't see or locate the solenoid at the 7'o clock position from crank from above or from the side. At a minimum, front skid plate needs to come off or radiator fan needs to come out.

If you have success locating and getting access to connector, post up here.

OK @skiracer I did this yesterday. Solenoid is easily accessible at the front of the motor, you have to do it by feel as its not visible. Taped it up and drove about 800 miles since then.

I am a fan. Car seems much smoother. Transmission seems to hold gears in comfort just a bit longer which is very nice. No idea about long term effects (so much literature on this subject on youtube), but I definitely subscribe to the pleasant butt dyno effects of this simple mod. I plan to keep getting my oil tested through blackstone so I will keep an eye on any change.

Thanks for trying this mod and for the positive results and feedback. I'm away from home for the summer and will get to this mod myself upon my return in late September. I installed Ohlins shocks and upgraded the ECU just before I left in June but haven't had any time to really drive it yet. This gives me something else to look forward to.

Happy driving - cheers!
Jim

M273 does not have that variable volume oil pump.

M157 oil pump solenoid mod

I recently disconnected the oil pump solenoid on my 2012 e63 the car seems to run significantly better but I have gotten a ad a quart of oil like three times and I pull over wait 30 minutes to check the oil and the oil level seems to be fine. I’m just curious if anybody else has ran into this after the oil pump solenoid modification/disconnecting in M157 car

happened to me once when I idled the car for an extended period of time and was running 0-40. Similar to you, my oil level was never low but car thought so once.

I switched to 5-40 and has never happened again.

My guess is that the higher flow at idle and thinner oil may have thrown the oil level sensor.

Some also tried 5W-50 but if want to stick with 5W-40, I recommend motul or pennzoil.
