Hello...I'm in my new-to me 2021 S580 today and I decide to use the navigation...well, like the windshield reflection of the air vents on the dash aren't bad enough (along with the side vents in the outside rearview mirrors), the "augmented navigation" is just a mess with the dash air vents...am I missing a piece of camera housing on my windshield or something? How coud MB have missed this if they ever tested te augmented navigation feature in the real world?
No, you’re not missing anything. The good news is that in a couple of years, you’ll barely notice it! I’m surprised there isn’t an aftermarket replacement for the trim.
The AR camera as opposed to the driver assist cameras isn't separated by a housing to block reflections. It's positioned such that it looks out the windshield like you do, picking up any reflection as well as dirt on the inside of the windshield. Much like a dash camera.
I've long been wearing polarized sunglasses to filter out windshield reflections. Unfortunately if you have the HUD, they also filter out most of the HUD as the HUD image is effectively reflection off the windshield. This is one reason I never option the HUD. Not sure it does anything for reflections that are picked up through a camera. Don't actually know if the polarity of the reflection on the screen is the same as the original reflection. FWIW, I've had a few loaners with the AR feature. Didn't use the AR navigation, though, but I don't remember seeing reflections in the traffic light view while wearing my polarized sunglasses.
You could always try to mount a polarizer filter in front of the camera. They sell them for SLR camera lenses. Not sure why the camera doesn't have a filter in the first place.

I have to check mine to see if there is a forward facing vent in front of the rear view mirror. I am not getting that reflection, thank goodness. It would be very annoying if that reflection was there.
