S580- Is There An Exhaust Flap Mod?
Hi All!
Been away for a little while, but looking to replace my current A8 lease with a S580, possibly S580e if the price is right but at this point the V8 is most appealing to me as it is the classic combo for such a car.
At any rate, my older 7 series was able to be "coded" to have the exhaust flap open at startup, yet my Audi does not and I simply removed the flap plugs so I can get a throaty exhaust at all RPMs (yes it really does sound great!)
I know the S class is meant to be a quiet, plush driving car, but as we all know there is a true monster in that V8 engine. I am hoping to get a bit more sound out of the engine without having to do an aftermarket exhaust, and I am curious if anybody has gone down this road with their S class and could share some insight. My first thoughts/questions would be if no software is available, it is easy to access the plugs that keep the exhaust flaps closed? If I do that, will it trigger any check engine lights?
Any insight is greatly appreciated! Looking forward to coming back with some photos once I put ink to paper (it will be a couple of months though)

but you need a forwarding service to have ASR ship to that service then that service ship to USA.

Thanks will check it out, but just curious if a simple pulling out the plug for the flaps would be a quick/easy/free solution. I am just hoping it does not trigger a check engine light, as it has worked like a charm on my A8

Well the reason I recommended ASR was because RENNTech's version is essentially the same as ASR but licensed them to be sold in North America and to put their brand on it. This is why it is way more expensive, I just like to support the original creator. This is also a reason why ASR doesn't ship to North America. That said, the added cost of the RENNTech vs ASR might be worth it as a form of convenience for some.

BenzNinja can code this for you .Messing with the flaps manually or unplugging the solenoids will flag a CEL which you don't want. The ECU is trying to protect the motor if the flaps wont open for some reason.

Or you can just start the vehicle in "Sports" mode or make your individual preference selections in "individual" mode.

It is not the same though, even if this was as AMG with the exhaust button, the flaps are not 100% open on idle in sport+, it only opens up at high rpms and as soon as the car shifts and rpm drops, it immediately closes up not fully but closely up a lot.

Exactly as I thought as well. I am just curious if there is a big sound difference, and if the exhaust does sound good/louder when open of course.

I do a bunch of city driving, so I would say so. I am just curious if the idle is louder, and of course if the exhaust is audible at all from the drivers seat. I am all for it (oddly enough in a car like this) but something is telling me even with the stock exhaust being "modded" you still may not hear much and I hope I am wrong

nothing wrong with wanting some more sound in this type of car, especially if you are an car enthusiast, there is a V8 in there after all.
Sorry for the disappointment.

I am afraid you might be correct, this is not the AMG model, the AMG S 63 E Performance has a different exhaust setup on top of a switchable button in the centre console, the module does bring a little more low RPM growl but that's it, it is not going to be ground-breaking for sure, especially not on a W223 S-Class with all that sound insulation.

If the sound is indeed nice with the module, you could always pop the window or the panoramic sunroof or drop the back seats to hear some noise.
Yup, you could try it for sure RENNTech sells it for a couple of hundred more than ASR though so even if you use forwarding services it might still be worth it to buy from ASR, plus like I mentioned earlier, they are the main creator of this module and RENNTech licensed the technology to be sold in USA.
Obviously, your money so up to you : )
