Finally got a chance to get both the GT3 and the GTR on track this past weekend at Barber Motorsports Park, along with a friend's Viper TA - all amazingly entertaining cars on the track. All three of us drove all three cars during the weekend.
2014 Viper TA (1.0) on Hoosier A7s (R's were not available), harnesses, Hawk pads, otherwise stock. 18K miles, almost all of them on the track.
2014 GT3, side muffler bypass, G6 engine, DSC controller, Nankang CRS V2, AP racing brakes, Ferodo DS3.12 pads, J hook rotors, buckets and harnesses.
2018 AMG GTR, bypass pipes, Wiestec tune and other Weistec bits, 2K miles on PSC 2s. Factory ceramic brakes, ansix brake cooling ducts.
My son in the GT3 behind me in the GTR, second session on a new track so still exploring (especially that last turn :-):
The verdict:
- Easiest car to go fastest: GT3
- Car that makes you work hardest to go fast: Viper
- Most likely to improve: GTR, with more track focused tires
In the hands of my son (best driver out of the 3 of us), the GT3 was about a second faster than the Viper, which was about a second faster than the GTR. I need better tires....
