Well got the P229F according to the parts store (where I had it read). Need to get scanner one of these days. Apparently was both front and rear NOX sensors and they came on about 200m after filling up (2 days of driving). Not sure why both. I popped both out of exhaust and soaked in seafoam for a few hours, sprayed down with brake cleaner, reinstalled. Immediately noticed my mpg was up by a couple and after about 200-250 miles the engine light cleared itself. Hopefully good to go for a bit.
Few things,
The engine light if its not night time is impossible to notice. Not sure how long I had it on before I noticed it. Could have come on after the car sat for a few months waiting for me to fix front end. Seriously during day time you cant see check engine light.
Yeah I know AEM probably covers some of this but both dealers are 1hr to 1.45hr away in either direction which turns that into a 4hr adventure both times (worse if traffic).
Forgo the sensor socket and just use a wrench, the forward one with e250 exhaust is much easier with just a wrench of correct size. If you were going to take the cabling and module out as well would require removing belly shields but just twisting out sensors piece of cake with everything in place.
Will see how long this cleaning fix works. I do know in my truck that cleaning various sensors sometimes seemed to help with overall operation of the engine JUST BE MINDFUL of what type of cleaner your using on what type of sensor.
