Smile Starter Battery V4 35 Ah 520 A

This hot weather has been torturous to car batteries especially a starter battery dated September 2019. I knew it needed replacement and I usually cycle starter battery every four years and consumer battery in the trunk every 10 years (or sooner if low voltage issues start showing up); but I was being lazy on the starter battery.

Last night after refueling, my 2007 S600 V12 wouldn't crank. And the only V4 starter battery available in town on a Sunday was Advance Auto Parts. $219. Usually, they will also install it; but I just found out they have a new rule about not working on Mercedes or BMW. So I picked it up this morning and installed it myself. Car cranked immediately and the connections and hold-down strap were no problem. V4 fits perfectly. I miss the Mercedes label on the old battery but I can live with Die-Hard. And I am operational on a Sunday morning.

I wonder what the Mercedes dealer charges for a starter battery? My last one in 2019 was $450 installed by the dealership (and not covered under my extended warranty). Almost twenty years ago, when my wife's red 2000 500 SL died in my garage. We called Mercedes "roadside assistance" and an hour later, a pleasant guy from the local dealership showed up with a new battery and installed it for her in about 20 minutes. I think he charged her $150 total (of course that was a long time ago).

I know other members have written about cheaper battery pricing at Walmart and Costco.

my OEM starter battery lasted 14 years without any maint through 13 winters around 2C ave for 3 months each time and hitting 35C summers now and then during those years - then exactly as you shouldn't unscrew the tops and top it up to give another 3 years without ANY issues - I swapped to a 65 amp hr one 2 years back just coz I didn't need the agro of it one day complaining a little bit

there was nothing wrong with the one that came out - I could put it back in and I reccon start the car as is - and do another few years

I got a quote from MB Scottsdale to replace mine for just under $600. Bought an Interstate Battery at Costco for $210. Last time I changed it a few years ago, I was told by an MB dealer parts guy that Interstate makes MB batteries for US and sells to MB parts. Might not be the same battery but I'll take my chances.

By starter battery you mean the main battery in the trunk?

Do these have to be programmed or do you simply install the new one and that's it?

no the consumer "toys" battery is in the boot (of early cars)
oddly the starter battery is in the front to start the car, sitting next to the starter motor

then they took drugs, added more pointless batteries and got confused on the naming of ALL of them....

the Aux battery is the name of the emergency shift back up power supply and then on later cars its the destroy the engine with start stop snap my cam chain battery
but the brainy engineers forgot they already used that name as the back up supply for the death by SBC brakes madness

Your car does not have a battery in the trunk. You have one in the engine compartment and one under your steering wheel. I believe he is talking about the little one under the steering wheel. And no, no programming needed.

No. My 2007 S600 has a starter battery under the hood and a consumer battery in the trunk.

And no programming was required to replace the starter battery under the hood. Plug and play.

And the local Mercedes dealership just replied to my inquiry about a starter battery. They were selling it at a discount today for $289 not including installation. I told them I had purchased a Group V4 at Advance Auto Parts for $219.

Interstate is a great battery and they supply Mercedes. I just couldn't get an Interstate store to open on Sunday! I tried.

Yes, mine is under the hood on the passenger side. I was mostly curious about the S600 design.

So many batteries you’d think we're driving teslas!

Follow up to replacing my V4 starter battery in my 2007 S600.

I had posted previously about a funny click sound when I pressed the start button. A number of members suggested a bad starter motor. Apparently it was related to the battery (possibly starting to fail from lower voltage?) because now that I replaced it, the funny click has departed. Now when I press that start button, it winds up like Allison aircraft engine.

Maybe the battery was giving me fair warning, I should have listened better.
