My 280 SL (1985) has developed a steering problem the steering turns on left hand lock perfect on right hand lock its very very stiff has power steering seems not working when I raise vehicle on lift steering works in both directions perfectly has any one experienced this and can help me out with solution. my problem is I live in rural Ireland and no one wants to know about fixing old mercs thanks in advance for any help

check all ball joints, bushings etc.

Check steering linkage.
Stock tire size?

Could be worn steering rack ( think those were rack and pinion.)
