This may sound dumb but my 2002 CLK55 AMG Convertible recently failed state safety inspection for the right front and right rear fog lights not working. I figured that it was just burned-out bulbs but when I went to remove the bulb socket from the right rear light...it had no socket or bulb. The place where you would normally install the socket/bulb was blanked off like it has never had a bulb/socket. The left side had a socket/bulb and worked fine. Did the car come from the factory this way? Makes no sense to me why it would have but also makes no sense why the hole would be blanked off like that.

dude, you dont need fog lights, especially a rear fog. do you live in some small, mystical european country?

I would bet most inspection-level mechanics don't even know rear fogs exist.

i would 100% leave that shop an awful review. Instead of looking out for their customer, or the public, they're just being cruel. I've never been in a state that can legally fail you for not having fogs; most cars don't have fogs.

also, is the front fog dummy area that same style of plastic like in the back?

man, that is weird. The first thing that would come to mind is that they are aftermarket units, but I don't really think that's it.
