I have this rattling noise coming from the PS pump if I do a full turn. I inspected the PS reservoir and it was low fluid, the dip stick barely gets wet on a cold engine. I guess I need to top it off.
But I'm getting mixed opinions on what to use. The User manual clearly states to use "Dextron III ATF", and there is no marking on the reservoir or cap. But everywhere I read "Pentosin CHF 11S" is recommended. I even contacted two local mechanics and one said to flush with green CHF and the other one says top off with ATF. I have no idea what the previous owner did and when it was changed at all. The color of the current fluid is brownish. I managed to pull out some with a syringe. I know CHF is green and ATF is red. Not sure how they change color when they get old.
The question is not what oil!! You're not in a road side emergency - Do what needs to be done....
You need to replace the high pressure hose not just top off and go. Inspect where your leak is active.
There's not much oil in steering line (1.5Qt)... pumping air sends you straight. Been there myself
Next maintenance item is belt + tensioner + idlers ($100 parts kit)
When belt slips'n catch it surges the pump pressure regulator.
That forces the high-pressure leak you're facing. These cars are extremely well designed
The root cause of your present leak is not the leaky hose coupling it's your belt TENSIONER!
Steering use different type of seal conditioner than tranny ATF. You don't want to damage seals in your steering rack...
