Local dealer sends a letter telling me I'm eligible for a $10k discount and a great trade in on a AMG SL55 with an MSRP of $145k.
Poppycock! These R232s are experiencing numerous issues and the depreciation is staggering. Owners are dumping them and losing up to 40% in 1-2 years.
I'll keep my 10 year old SL and smile all the way to the bank.

Agree. If you love your car why sell it? You really don't want to deal with buyer's remorse or seller's remorse or both, trust me, I gone through several and it is a pain. Why spend money to buy something you hate?

Read the posts on the R232 forum. Owners very upset with their cars. MB really screwed up this model IMHO. The reliability is down across many MB models. EVs aren't selling either. It's a mess.

I did, I have been subscribed to that thread, to be frank it breaks my heart hearing all this as an MB fan.

I feel the same way with both my 2014 C350 and my 2015 SL400. I have absolutely zero interest in getting a new car or anything after 2017 unless it has an M276 engine.

Thankfully the M256 inline 6 is pretty reliable in general nowhere close to M276 but I don't hear much problems. It will be nice if it ever comes in non 48V form but pipedream it is.

The other thing that discourages me from getting something newer is the 9G tranny. Servicing it is almost a mandatory dealership visit; nothing at all like the 7G. (But I'm probably an outlier on that issue.) I'm also more of a physical knobs and controls guy. I was able to add CarPlay to my SL (and C-Class), so I'm happy.

I see, yup I understand where you are coming from, FWIW the price was 450+13% tax CAD to service at an MB dealership for the 7G+, but 950+13% tax CAD for my 2017 C 43 transmission, this was pricing for 2023, I had this service done in 2023, I want to try DIYing at some point though.

With only 18,000 miles on my beautiful 2017, I'm looking to get another 20 years out of it. If I keep averaging the same number of miles per year, it should have about 50,000 miles on the clock by 2044. I will love every beautiful mile of it.

I will likely be too old to drive in 2044, if I'm still vertical at that time. I think finding fuel 20 years from now will be the challenge. Hard to imagine, isn't it?
