W223 to S63 Conversion - Distronic Sensor troubleshooting
Hi All,
I just completed an S63 conversion on my 2022 S500, everything appears to be working except the distronic sensor is giving "dirty sensor" error.
This is an aftermarket kit and I suspected this might happen. The distronic radar mount it comes with positions it abbout 1.5 inches below center of the grille star emblem (by the way, they grille emblem is OEM part number 000-888-05-00)
As a test, I moved it up temporarily so that it was centered, and eventually got the same dirty sensor error, however this time after about 10 mins of driving vs 2 mins.
If anyone has successfully done this conversion, can you please share specifically how the OEM radar sensor is mounted behind the grille star badge? It would be much appreciated!
The OEM radar mounts directly behind and centered on the star badge. The badge itself is a special "radio-transparent" version that allows the radar signal to pass through it.
Your aftermarket mount is the problem. Even when you centered it, the standard grille emblem is blocking and interfering with the signal, causing the false "dirty" error. You need the specific radar-transparent badge (Mercedes part A0008173101) for it to work correctly.
I personally think the W222 S63 AMG front looked more classy.
I prefer the hood ornament vs. the giant badge in the center. The latter looks better on the coupe or roadster MBs (SL, AMG GT, etc.)

I really appreciate your response! I was unable to find the badge with the part number you provided (A0008173101). Can you double check for typo etc.? Also, I did a lot of digging before purchasing the badge I am using. Unless I'm mistaken, the one I have is in fact made for cars with distronic. Here is a screenshot of the part I have. I would love to be proven wrong! I am extremely frustrated at this point trying to get this working!
If that wasn't enough, the shop that did the install broke some tabs and ended up using epoxy to get the badge mounted firmly. I wanted to test it with the badge completely removed to rule that out, but that's going to be much harder now. If my badge, part number 000-888-05-00 turns out to be wrong, I'm going to need to do this anyway. I'm wondering if the epoxy has a lower melting point than the plastic, enabling me to use a heat gun to remove it. I guess I'll find out!
Anyway, if you could double check that part number it would be more than greatly appreciated, because I can't find it. As you can see below. Thanks!
