Looking to purchase 2018 GLC 250 33k miles - Yay or Nay?

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum and so sorry in advance if this has already been asked!

I’m looking at getting a 2018 GLC 250 (AMG Sport Package - 2.0L petrol) with about 33k miles, full service history, and really tidy condition. It's for my wife and she drives around 6–9k miles a year.

Question - is this particular model good for long-term ownership in terms of reliability and running costs, or something to be cautious about? Are there any common issues I should watch out for before purchasing, particularly any upcoming maintenance items given the mileage?

Would really appreciate honest feedback, cheers!

Nay if this model has the M274 engine. 2019 was before they switched to the M264 engine. The M274 was burdened with an expensive replacement of the PCV system failure. Double check that the warranty extension applies to this vehicle. If so, you're possibly facing an inconvenience at best. If not, I've seen estimate north of $5000 USD. I'd prefer a 2020 or 2021 but I'm biased being that I have one of each.

You don't need to replace the entire pcv part. MB sells only the errortic valve part under $100. And changing only the valve is much easier job like 1 hour with some hose clamps, at around the throttle body. Many mechanic can do it under $500.

It's 8 years old with an average of 4125 miles/yr. At minimum, I'd expect to see 7 oil changes (yearly), new tires (check tire code date and replace after 6 years), wiper replacements (yearly), brake fluid replacements (every 2 years), battery replacement, motor air filter, cabin air filter (near battery and charcoal one under glovebox. As for upcoming work, spark plugs are very easy to do. I'd change them just because of the time they've been in there with concerns over getting seized. By the time you get to 50K miles, it will be 10 years old. Consider transmission service, coolant replacement, front differential fluid, transfer case fluid, rear differential fluid, all air filters again, brake fluid replacement again and replace the spare tire if it has one.

FYI. CPO warranty is nothing special, alot of things are not covered. You may be better off finding a similar car at carmax, as their warranty is good at any shop and covers more items.

Not sure CarMax is located in New Zealand where OP is car shopping.
