Any Experience With Removing Rear Seat Lights?

As you can see from the picture below, the passenger side light in the bar between the sunroofs is out. Speculation is there might be a loose wire, but won't know until I can get in there to check. Does anyone have any experience in removing these lights? If not, my car is under warranty, but getting in to see them for such a minor issue will be tough.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Update: Local dealer ordered a computer module that controls the light from Germany. Will take two weeks to arrive. Will provide an update once the work is completed then.

It’s insane how many ‘modules’ are used to control the electrical components in a vehicle.
No wonder why the semiconductor industry is raking in crazy profits.
Nothins is as simple to fix as it used to be back in the good ole’ days where all you needed was a screw driver and a spare bulb

Yeah who would have thought an overhead light would have a module!

LOL exactly.
I guess the lighting system in the S is pretty sophisticated (gesture controls and whatnot), so it kinda makes sense compared to, say a Civic. (I hope the MB gods don't punish me for mentioning the Civic)

Oh this is bringing up nightmares. When I had my previous S I commented one time in this forum that it had the upholstery of a Civic. A month later I was rear-ended by a guy and caused $30,000 damage to my car.

I was referring to that specific event you had to go through.
My apologies if my comment was somewhat insensitive.

I wasn't offended at all Daniel - my comment about having nightmares may have been a bit extreme. In all honesty, if that hadn't happened, I would not have my current Olive S which I love.

Your fully loaded Olive was definitely a blessing in disguise!

The dome light control module that was ordered from Germany is in; my car goes into the shop tomorrow for the replacement and programming of the module. I'll provide the work notes once I get my car back post service.

Thank you for sharing the info, Mark.
So my ambient light is malfunctioning more and more frequently and it has become a major annoyance as of late.
It's not just the lights that go out but the A/C as well, which is really weird, and it's a big problem until it resets itself after about 10 min.
I think I'll have to bring it in for diagnosis.

Took dealer less than 90 minutes to fix the light issue this morning. I haven't yet received the work notes so can't report on what all they did. My advisor said they'll get that to me when they close out the warranty details. Good news is light is fixed and didn't take too long to do.

Yeah, funny that this started to happen, or at least I started to notice, as soon as the passenger's front wheel hit a decent pothole.
I got warning message as soon as I felt the nasty bump and with the ambient lights out, I didn't get any air.
I tried to reset the vehicle by pulling over, get out of the vehicle and locking it - waited 3-4 min, no dice.
I had to start driving again because it didn't feel safe pulled over to the side of the road.

I kept the windows open for about 10 min or so until I could find a good place to stop and wait out for a while but then it started to blow cold air again!
Ambient light didn't come back on btw.

I drive the car maybe once every week or two, and this issue has happened every single day I took the car out on a drive.
Normally happens when the car's been sitting for a few minutes in the sun after a drive. The initial cold starts never gave me problems.

And yes, it's a major inconvenience when the AC goes out in the summer

So it was not a light control module but rather the actual lighting assembly.
Now that I know this, I'll have 1 ordered and replaced than to make the hour-long roundtrip to the dealer
Thanks for sharing the details. I just wish my fix was this simple.

Yes, I assume just the module was bad. But that isn't what my advisor originally said a couple of weeks ago when I first had it in. He said the module that controlled the light assembly was bad and that once it arrived and was installed, it needed to be programmed. Not sure what the actual issue was; perhaps they replaced the light module and as it states in the work order, all the interior lights worked as intended and no further work was needed.

Yeah that's doesn't sound good or fun at all. Sorry to hear about all of that.
