MBUX OS Versions: Refresh vs Existing

Does anyone know if the refresh will be running an entirely different MBUX version and if so, what is the number? Also, what are the differences as well if anyone knows? My car is currently on 2.6.1 according to the app.

You're on MBUX 1.0 (NTG6.0). The refresh runs completely different hardware called MBUX 2.0 (NTG7.0). It's not a software number difference, it's a whole new brain. Key changes: no more console touchpad, wireless phone connection is standard, and the home screen shows everything at once without digging through menus. Your 2.6.1 will never update to match it.

How come Google says the W223 has NTG 7.0?

NTG 7.0 was 2020, introduced in 2022 models, still based on the traditional module-based hardware infrastructure. The S-Class facelift runs on the MB.OS operating system running MBUX as a user interface.

Thanks. So, will the refresh still be running NTG 7.0 essentially? Is there an NTG number?

Yes refresh seems to be running MB OS. So NTG 9 (?)

I have no access to version numbers but this has nothing to do with NTG anymore.

The facelift runs the 4th gen. MBUX but that is only one component of the infotainment domain within MB.OS.

I heard is it internally NTG 9 but to be honest it doesn't matter what NTG it is https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...llo-mb-os.html

It’s like going from Windows 3 to Windows 95; a new name for the sake of a new name and nothing more…

It could be that they are still using that phrase but that is non-sensical. NTG stands for New telematics generation which has little relevance these days

Quite the opposite. They should have changed the name from MBUX as the only thing left is the UI

Exactly.

OP, you might want to read that thread linked, it is an entire new architecture, if I recalled correctly with (some)? help from Nvidia. I haven't read that thread for a long time but it was a popular thread when it was first announced MB was working on MB OS.

I looked through some MB.OS presentations but couldn't find anything quick and easy to post. Here is a really old article from 2023 but it describes the overview https://www.embedded.com/mercedes-be...e-driven-cars/

It maybe worth to create a proper update date thread for this. BMW has done a better job describing the Heart of Joy and then iDrive X. People understand this is something new. Not just the interface but everything down to the central processor architecture handling every aspect of the cars function, feature and interaction.

Mhmm you could probably create one and then sticky it to make it more accessible.
