Is the GT 55 Coupe the Perfect Car?

I agree with this review. The GT55 is a perfect blend of sports car and GT car and doesn’t compromise anything to do both really well. That’s why I had a 2027 GT55 on order. It really is the perfect all-around car. Don’t get me wrong, the 63 is really, really good but it is also expensive.

Finally, I really recommend the 20” wheels. You’re not sacrificing that much in looks to gain a lot in comfort and practicality, not to mention the fact that tires are half as much versus the 21’s and you can buy all seasons. I thought I wouldn’t like the factory Hankooks, but they have pleasantly surprised me with how quiet and comfortable they are. Michelin Pilot Sports are really noisy in my opinion and have this drone on the freeway. Not these 20” Hankooks.

Likewise, I have to agree with the OP on the review! Of course, I might be just a little biased...

Many have found that the 55 is the sweet spot for both the SL and GT and I agree in principal. Where the 63 may be the better car is if you live in Germany and enjoy the no speed limits on the Autobahn. The 63 will pull harder at those top ends. I see this with my C63S Coupe. 510 hp is more than enough here in the US. I never felt I needed more power, however, when I was doing European Delivery, I wish it had another 60-100 hp for the Autobahn.

But I'm having more fun in the C63 than when I drove the GT, because of RWD. As the reviewer said, the GT lacks engagement and when he was talking about the GT R and the likes scaring him at times, he incorrectly attributed that to the gearbox being in the rear. That's not it. What scared him is that those cars are all RWD. Personally, I prefer a car that has the capacity to scare me at times. Yes, you can turn on Drift mode in the SL and the GT, but then you have to turn off all safety systems. You can't have RWD fun while still have ESP watch over you in case you screw up.

This is why the GT so far hasn't moved my needle enough. 4Matic+ kinda ruins it for me here in California with an average of 300 dry days, but it certainly opens it up for people who live in places with adverse weather conditions.

I just took delivery of my GT55 this week. I absolutely love the car. Plenty of power and I keep it under the 4500 rpm break in window sticker rules. Handles like a dream. Exhaust is pure delight. Awesome interior. It's heaven on wheels.

GT55 is not available in all markets, so this topic is completely moot in those cases as it's not available for comparison and also GT63S E Performance is missing in some markets and no one seems interested in the GT43 so in that case it's a toss up between the GT63 & GT63 Pro

How fast were you able to push your C63S on the Autobahn with 510hp? At what speed did it feel like you were hitting a wall in terms of acceleration?

It had no problem going all the way to 180 mph. There wasn't a wall per se. I just wanted it to pull stronger up there. Basically there were other cars that I couldn't shake.

Some BMWs. I don't expect to get away from a supercar. On the Nürburgring of course I had to make room for GT3s and such, but that's to be expected. However, the long straights in the C63 were also underwhelming, so that's another place where I wished it had more top end power.

I see now. I see your point regarding the desire for more power. Thank you!

BTW, this is also why I never much saw the point of tuning. Typical tunes for the M17x only increase low and mid range power. They don't do anything for the top end. Need to get larger turbos first to make more top end power. The GT 55 as far as I know is just a detuned GT 63, so technically you could up it to GT 63 power with a tune. They have the same exact engine and turbo chargers as far as I know.

I have a question about the MBUX functionality for all owners of a 2026 55 or 63.

in my 2024 GT 55, I know with certainty that I could add Sirius/XM favorites to the root Favorites menu, the one that appears at the very top of the radio screen next to "Sirius/XM" and "FM" as sources. Because it was set up that way, while listening to the radio, I could scroll through ALL of my favorites using the right-sided four-way haptic control on the wheel to scroll through anything I placed in favorites, whether a FM station or a SXM one.

Now, on my 2026 GT 63, the MBUX functionality has been changed- SXM favorites cannot be added to the root favorites list, only FM stations, meaning I cannot scroll through my SXM stations using the wheel. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you scroll SXM stations?7

You are not alone https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...favorites.html
Edit: You are running mbux 3.0 (NTG 8?) right if so then what is described in this thread explains what you are facing with, 2024 GT might had been running mbux 2.0.

I have the same exact problem and it is annoying as heck! I wonder if future software updates would fix this.

Nothing against SXM, but the streaming quality of SXM is not good. Streaming Apple Music directly to the car sounds so much better.

That said, I think the best music is the exhaust note, no?
