GLC 300 MHEV - Jan 2023 - MBUX updates

Hi everyone, I recently bought a January 2023 GLC 300 in Italy. The system history shows it was successfully updated until June 2024. However, the Mercedes me app notes that it failed to install the MBUX 2.4 update back in September 2024, stating it "will retry later." Meanwhile, the car's head unit itself displays "no update needed."

I read online that if an OTA update fails repeatedly over a certain period, the Mercedes servers essentially freeze the update deployment for that specific VIN. If that happens, a manual firmware flash at an official Mercedes service centre is required.
Is this correct, and should I request a manual update? I want to avoid booking an appointment to complain about something that can't actually be done on my specific car.

Furthermore, if this update is indeed compatible, it makes me wonder: during the routine maintenance services done by the previous owner over the past few years, why wouldn't the dealership mechanics think it was important to update the MBUX system to the latest stable build?

Thanks in advance for any comment!

Yes if OTA isn't working, get it done at the dealership. That said, if you have no issue with your car then I would advise holding on to what you have and not a new update. It is sort of like the if it ain't broken don't fix it thing. Forum members have been reporting issues with certain versions of MBUX.

Normally, I would agree. Considering the previous owner used it for the last two years without installing the 2.4 update, it's definitely a valid point.

However, I know for a fact that version 2.4 and the subsequent 2.6.1 resolved a myriad of issues and significantly improved security. Not to mention, they enhanced the MBUX AI and added features like Dolby Atmos and dynamic music that adapts to your driving style. I find these additions really interesting and would love to try them out.

I feel like I am missing out on quite a few features, but more importantly, I care about the security patches that protect the vehicle. Checking around, these seem to be the most critical differences between my outdated pre-2.4 MBUX and the current release:
  • Bluetooth Stack and Wi-Fi patch: Fixes known vulnerabilities that could allow unauthorised individuals to access the car's infotainment system.
  • LTE communication stability: Since I paid for and activated the Urban Guard 360 package, a stable connection with MB servers is crucial for the tracking and notifications to work flawlessly.
  • NVIDIA thermal management: Addresses the overheating issues related to the wireless phone charging and the MBUX system in general (a very important patch).
  • ADAS improvements: Enhance the security and responsiveness of the driving assistance systems, reducing the latency between detecting a hazard on the road and the system's reaction.
These are the core technical reasons for me, beyond the fun additions like the dynamic music, the smarter AI, Dolby Atmos, etc.

Would anyone advise against updating for some technical reason?

If you use sirusxm a lot, you may not like the update https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...-1-update.html

Definitely get the software updated as soon as possible! If the dealership demands payment, state that you are having issues with the CarPlay, display, etc, and the update should be covered under warranty.

Yup OP could update as long as there aren't significant bugs. What version are you running if you don't mind me asking? All stable right, good!
