These Diesel oil test are related to the Duramax 3.
Plenty of great data:
Outcome...
-- Higher viscosity yields more torque from sealed combustion pressure.
-- Cheap sludgy Group-III can't match Group-IV+V PAO Esters
-- Higher viscosity produces less wear metals: duh!
At the end of the day, the Motor-Oil-Geek explains that thin oils come from EPA certifications that are disconnected from reality... up to "1% gas-savings" with drafty cylinders.
Lake demonstrates that PAO viscosity rules for diesel engines... stops short of publishing the stock 0w20 oil causes Duramax issues.
