DIY Turbo replacement?
On my last spirited drive, I was met with the largest cloud of smoke I've ever seen and oil leaking from where my downpipes connect to the rear exhaust. After some inspection, it looks like the turbo on the drivers side has bit the dust. I've done a some searching on here and other places, but was unable to find a write up or any videos to see what I'm getting myself into if I wanted to tackle this on my own. I am aware its most likely and engine out job, but I've also seen some can do it without removing it completely. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.

At that point...well, may as well just take it out and keep another $3k handy for "May as well" items...replace the cam adjuststers too....may as well....
(EDIT: - reading more - very cool kit. I would 100% consider that an option)

Were you able to trace what may have caused the turbo to go out? And how many miles are on the car?

-- 1x turbo only is bad
or
-- 2x turbo to keep engine banks balanced
Both answers acomplish different goals.
The parts that will be MOST expensive are those that were ignored now during this engine out and need repair soon after again!

How to best decide...??

Write all items on a blank sheet of paper with
2x columns:
NOW: must have item good for next 30/40/50kMi
LATER: can be postponed or in-car repair ok
Research the list of applicable candidate repairs to your liking.
Then you decide which items: now vs. later based on personal priorities:
- job cost,
- timings of available parts and
- outcome you want: keep /sale.
You have some control now.
