2017 E400 Chain rattle 30k miles
I plan to reseal my timing cover, so I'll be in there anyway, and I figure it's a good time to address the chain rattle.
I'm wondering:
1) Does the 2017 m276 have the non-return/check valves? The TSBs I have seen cite specific engine codes, but I cannot seem to get a good enough view of the code on my block, thanks to an oil line or similar running directly in front of the stamping.
2) What should I be ordering in preparation for this? Other than new tensioners, is there anything else I should be trying/replacing?
3) Where can I find a procedure for removing the timing covers with the engine in the car? The videos I have seen are either engine out or of earlier versions of the m276 in other models, and I don't know how much of the accessory procedures are different.
4) any other tips or considerations
Thanks,
Peter

I think what you're hearing is exactly the condition that wears out the VVT lock pins to ultimately progress as startup rattle.
You're driving on really low oil pressure.
