Angry idle to about 1500 ,surge is so bad

surge is so bad the car jumps forward (normal start) if you gas it firm you don`t notice it much

I had this on an SL 320, turned out to be an air leak on the manifold. In the end it got so bad that I could here the air noise with the bonnet up, otherwise I wouldn't of found it. Might be worth a look!?!

if it feels like a rough idle it could be the motor mounts

but thats not really hte "surge" you are talking about.
