At last - spring

Here in Sweden the spring is storming forward. How do you prepere your SL for the spring and summer, besides from checking tyre and so on. Here is my way to go.

New air filters for the engine.
New fuel filters.
New oil filter.
New dust filter.
Leather care foam.
Convertible impregnating spray.
and lots of expensive high quality syntetic oil.

I´m going to do the same thing because one of the prior owners have painted the whole rims, and hide the polished edge. But that is´t any thing I do every year

For the first time since the winter, the car is out from the garage. The engine filter and the dust filter is changed and the car startet on the first turn. Change of the oil, oilfilter and fuelfilter tomorrow. Eight month left before I put it in the garage again

The standard 1999 wheels on my car have a haze of black pit marks that never come off with washing. The condition varies from wheel to wheel. It shows up mostly where the wheel flares out where the rubber of tire beads with rim.

I don't know if brake dust is corrosive ... I clean regularily. I inherited this condition from the previous owners.

Also ... I also have managed to scratch the spokes when brushing & scrubbing the brake dust out of the the inside of the rims.

Does the refinishing you netion dela with those types of problems?

Well, the black pit marks don´t sound like like the problem I have. Have you tryed realy strong wheel-cleaner? My problem is that have corrosive deep marks inside of the rims (se picture 1). On the front wheels the prior owner also have scratch the rims (se picture 2). Not much (just the paint) but I want it to be perfect. The refurbish of 4 split rims, new tires all around and petrol price of $5.82/gal makes this summer expensive
.

Have anyone consider change air filter. Do that. Here is what I found, and the old filter compare to the new one

Once the lacquer deteriorates, it's very easy for corrosion to set in underneath it, which is what is happening here. The best solution is to strip the lacquer and replace it. Well worth doing to keep those wheels looking good.

I was also trying to get my weels done, but they don´t take any split rims in during spring or summer. Too much to do. Hi asked me welcome back in october. The price for total refurbished wheels is estimated to 11400 SEK (£853 / 1243 EUR / $1602). Look forward to se some pictures of your wheels.

.
I picked up some Armour All wheel cleaner today. Designed for spray, wait and wash off.

I also bought a long haired nylon bristle brush intended for cleaning deep wheel spokes.

I sprayed and scrubbed away and now the better wheels look like new and the badly pitted wheels lokk not too bad.

There definitly has been some laquer breakdown and corrosion on the poorer wheels.

Do alloy wheel refurbishing shops make these problem wheels look new?
