2001 SL500 Interior Lights
I have a 2001 SL500 with an interior light issue. The overhead interior lights will not come on when you open the doors. The floorboard lights do come on when you open the doors. However, I can turn the overhead interior lights on by switching them on using the switch located next to the rearview mirror. Any ideas on why they are not working? Thank you.

Remove both lenses and pull the rear view mirror out of its holder. This will expose three screws to remove the mirror mounting place and two more; remove them and the centre light console will come way with three connectors - one from the wiring loom and one to each vanity mirror. check the connectors on the back of the two switches are properly in place, could also be a faulty switch.
Caution: when replacing the screws, only tighten them enough to hold the console in place. If you overtighthen them, you will get a stress fracture in the plastic. That centre console is $250+.
