SL/R129: Ticking from engine

Ticking from engine
Two days ago my engine started ticking when i started it at work. On the way home i stopped at the local car wash (about a 10 min drive) and the noise was gone. I then drove another 15 miles and found when i turned into a parking lot that the ticking was back again! When i then drove the final 3 miles to my home the sound as gone.
However yesterday it started up again. The sound comes and goes. It is rather loud at times. It seams to start when the car is at idle at a light. It sounds like it is coming from the engine? The car has 63000 miles on it and is a sl500 sport.
Any ideas regarding what this may be?

Ticking
I have added a cleaner in the engine. I have noticed that the ticking has gotten better. However at times it still comes. When the ticking started I have noticed that if I rev the engine up to 3000 rpms for about 10 sec the sound goes away. Any ideas what the issue is?
