Newbie here, enjoying the forum last couple of weeks, now need some advice. Just purchased a 98 SL500, 52K miles. Checked with MB Dealer, all services performed by prior owner at MB Dealer here locally, running Mobil sythetic oil, 3300 miles until next service (last done Aug 04, "B" Service). I believe it's a lifter ticking, sound coming from upper engine, drivers side. Does not have ticking sound all the time, comes and goes, both at idle and at higer RPM.

Looking for any advice/guidence out there, thank you in advance.

You're right, most likely the lifters. A few months ago our '03 ML55 started making a ticking sound at idle and under acceleration, and the problem was the lifters. The dealer replaced all of the lifters along with the rockers and there's no more ticking.
