SL/R129: Battery discharging

Battery discharging
The Battery in my 1997 SL500 seems to be discharging when the car is off. I just replaced the battery with a new one and noticed that when I connected the negitive terminal that there was a distinct spark. I checked to see if everything was turned off, including the trunk light. Still I have a fairly bright spark when I connect the negitive terminal. Anyone have any ideas on why there is a discharge? Help would be appreciated.

Put a voltmeter across the battery termainals when the car is off and see if the voltmeter shows any discharge. If it does, remove one fuse at a time to see if it stops, and then replace it and try another. When you find the cuilprit check whats supplied by it and there you go.

He does indeed mean an ammeter! Does your car have any changes to the standard stereo? If so, it may be the amplifier is staying on all the time which could happen if it has not been wired in correctly.
