new rims?? help please
im looking at new rims for my 1993 sl 500
the rims on it now are the original 16 inch MB 8-spoke rims with 225/55 Michelin Pilots
i was looking at the Momo Quasar 2:
I was wondering what the recommended size, width and offset of the rims?
and the size tires i should use to keep my speedo measuring right?

hi
I just had a few issues so check the thread below.
There are a few other threads that talk about tyre size, and issues so check them out as well.... er I only thought of that after I had asked all my own questions![hammer](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bonk.gif)
My rims are 18" x 8" and 18" x 9" on the rear with an offset of 20. Some people put 19" or even 20" on their R129 but the ones that did, have sometimes reported rubbing... but it doesn't sound to be a universal issue.
You can go wider at the back for a hot rod look... say 10".
Your offset needs to be between 20 and 25.
My tyres are 235/40 R18 Y x 2 (front) and 265/35 R18 Y x 2 (rear).
My problem was not with tyre and wheel, but with bolts. The rear bolts need to extrude from the inside of the wheel by exactly the same amount as they do with your original wheels... otherwise you will getting rubbing on the springs inside your brakes, which may lead to failure... and a lot of expense.
My bolts are 12mm dia, I was originally sent 14mm dia. Wheels sizes seem to vary, but my bolts needed to be 30mm from the shoulder of the bolt...
The only thing you can do is be very careful explaining your car, age and model and ensure that the supplier understands what you need.
It seems to me that if you can get over these issues, buying non-standard wheels is a good economical alternative to the expensive option. Like a guy said recently though... if you have a $100k car you might want to spend $7k on wheels and tyres... but my guess is that most of would rather not.
I don't know about the speedo issue... my rolling diameter is exactly the same as with the old wheel, so I guess it isn't an issue unless you change it... but there are a lot of clever guys on here who can help you there.
Hope this helps
Chris

the AMG package for tire is -
235-40-ZR-18" FRNT.
275-35-ZR- 18" REAR
this is what i have and the spedo is only like 2MPH off, but i think that comes factory

i was looking at 18's as well
ive heard about choosing bolts can make differences but have no idea which to choose
this is the last step in choosing i guess
also if anyone can recommend rims that work and look good on sl with whatever specs they use for offset, rim+tire+bolt size that would be very helpful
