Question Are "Baby" Dash Speakers Working?

Got a '96 SL600 with a factory Bose system installed. Stereo runs great, but seems a bit "bassy". There are two speakers (tweeter & mid-range) in each door, two speakers (tweeter) in each side of the rear deck area behind the seats, and the Bose bass unit behind the driver's seat. Each of these speakers works and produces clear sound. Just overall, the system seems to generate a lot of bass; seems like there's a tweeter missing somewhere.
So, here's the question...

The car *had* a factory-installed mobile telephone. In each side of the dashboard, there are two small speakers, about 2" in diameter. When using the stereo, no sound ever comes out of these speakers. Are these two speakers associated with the telephone, or the stereo? The factory telephone has long since been removed, so I cannot test the dash speakers.

I believe that the dash speakers should be working. I get a fair amount of sound out of mine.

The most dramatic example of these dash speakers working that I know of ... is by playing the American Life CD by Madonna.

During certain songs it sounds as if there is someone sitting on your dash playing the guitar.

Thanks gang! I had a feeling these two little speakers were part of the stereo, but had no way of confirming. It would also explain why the overall system seems "bassy". I'm not sure my stack of CD's has any Madonna in it, but I might find some Boston, Heart or Brian Adams.

The Bose system is a bit heavy on the bass. I would bet that your dash speakers are working, play a CD with a good high end, and you'll hear them. All three of my cars have Bose systems, in my E, the bass is perfect, in my C, I cannot get enought bass out of the system, and in the SL it is too much, even when cranked down. It has always seemed to me that the audio is poorly equalized in the SL, but I didn't buy the SL for its audio system.....

Adjust the tone

I thought that of my speakers, (not the same vintage as yours), but confirmed mine OK by setting bass to minimum, and treble to maximum on the stereo, any CD should do pretty much for a test.
