SL/R129: False Fuel Reading

False Fuel Reading
I am having a problem with the fuel gauge in that it never hits the "filled" state. After filling it jumps back at least 1/4 on the gauge. On occasion it will teeter back and forth but never seems reliable. After allowing gauge to hit the warning area I filled the tank again today. Only took 13.53 gallons. The owners manual states the tank should hold 21.1 gallons.
What would cause the gauge to suddenly malfunction? Im never sure as to if it is truly near empty with needle at warning area.

1) Could be that you need to make sure the gas cap is put on tightly. The last 1/10 of a turn is needed to lock the pressurized tank system.
2) It could be the fuel sensor mechanism. Mine was replaced under the extended Starmark warrantee.

Most probably the fuel sensor..They are known to play around,,
The fuel gage in my car shows 1/2 one day and 1/4 the next and then back to 1/2....
As long as at the end it works well..i.e: when you're near emty..
Work out your consumption and fill up at the right time..
Unless you need to change the sensor which is costly...
