SL/R129: Norman in Spain
https://mbworld.org/forums/forumdisp...sprune=30&f=36
I recently saw a link posted (I can not remember where and have not been able to find it quickly) to get to a place in Tirerack's web site where you can see a side view of the R129 with various rims on it. It showed an amazing selection. Somkething like 30 different types of rims.
Maybe someone else can tell you where that was. Or you can find it for yourself.
Congratulations on buying the SL 500. Happy motoring!

Just double click on the wheel size under ech wheel picture. The car then has those rims installed for you to see.
There is a section on the site that focus on tire size. That may be more in line with answering your original question.

Did you want to upsize wheels or stick to 16"..
I think on 16 you cannot go more than 225's..
If you go up to 18's...which is the best size for the SL in my humble opinion,
then you need 9x18 fronts and 10x18 rears..with 245/40/18 and 275/35/18
respectively...the arches will be full and you will have a balanced car...
albeit with some wind noise from the big tires..
I think it is useless to upgrade to 17's..you might as well keep your 16's...
and 19's are too big..your tires will touch....
The choice is yours....
