96 Sl320 - Key?

My key for the 96 SL320 does not work anymore, I changed the batteries and still no luck with unlocking or locking. I have to insert the key into the door to accomplish it.

Do you have to synchronize the key???

Thumbs up Key

Stephen if the 96 320 is the same as the 95 600, than yes you do.

Mine had quit I thought it was broken after I changed the batteries. I placed it in the ignition and turned it to every postion and pushed the unlock button on the remote three times in every postion. Nothing happened, I then reversed the key in the ignition and went through the proceedure of turning and clicking again and it worked like a charm. The lady at the Mercedes parts counter told me about it when I went to order a new one. Cost of a new one $140. us, she was a jewel.

Check the fuse under the hood. I had a blown one in my 96 600, and I could not figure out for the life of me why it wouldnt work. So, I changed the fuse, pressed the button 3 times and voila magic.

I think the manual says pus the button 3 times and indert the kay and turn to position 2 within 30 seconds.

Justin's right! "To synchronize system, aim transmitter eye at door or trunk receiver and briefly press transmit button, within 30 secounds insert key in steering lock and turn to position 2."

Like my wife says "When all else fails, read the instructions".
