A beautiful SL. You have every reason to be proud of that beautiful automobile. What year is it?

Where are you located? Is that a Chinese flag flying in the first photo?

He must be from Hong Kong, at the Chinese border? Look at the right hand drive.

Thanks guys, it's 1995. Yes, the picture was taken in Hong Kong outside a PLA/Army base. What do you guys think of this?

Very low miles (er... kilometers) for a 1995. The white background on the instruments looks very good. Did the SL come like this or was this a mod?

With a nic like "HKSL", I should have guessed Hong Kong!

No, it's not an AMG. It is a SL320, the only AMG thing about it are the 18' Monobloc Aero wheels. HEIZ is a dash company in Germany where I purchased the dials from, and the chrome rings are from an Ebay seller in the US. I got her 4 months ago off someone who only used it as a second car, I am the second owner. I don't drive it much, Hong Kong is a very small place! Come on guys, show us your dream ride!

I've been thinking of changing to the white gauge faces on my silver SL. This is the first time that I have ever seen a good pic of them though.

Would you mind posting a pic at night with the dash illuminated? Were you able to change them out yourself? I have the removal tools. Just wondering about installation.

Thanks!

Hi,HKSL,nice ride..like the white dials..I have the rings on mine but not the white dials..I was wondering if it suits the SL..My interior is blue, maybe blue dials would be nicer....You must have taken these pics after a long run as your temp. is 100C....only crazy thing about those cars..temperature fluctuation between 80C and 100C...
Temp.gage never moves on a Japanese car..why could'nt mercedes make a system that sticks to 85C ?.....

You need to change out the tail lights and color code the door handles to complete the "updated" look. Nice ride. I purchased two sets of AMG wheels just like yours last year from a member here but have not mounted on the car yet. Someone told me recently that they will not fit my car as they came off a CLK55 AMG and now I am afraid to do it. I really love that AMG Monoblock look on the SL.

Hi all, sl500_dallas, I will try to take some night pictures of the dials for you the next time I drive at night. I got my friendly mechanic to do the swap, but the dials do come with compenhensive fitting instructions. Dafi129, I've got the blue interior as well, so my dials are white with blue markings, sort of to have the newer MBZ look, like the CLK Sports. G'day Elau, I quite like my tail lights! am thinking of colour coding the door handles. Yes, I too love those Monoblocs on an SL and E's. What's the offset of your CLK wheels? Where are those photos?????lets share them!!

HKSL,
The off set is 35. What is yours. BTW, mine are 17x7.5 front and 17x8.5 rear. Do you think they will work?

I get conflicting info, some said they will but Tirerack said they won't. So they have been sitting in my garage for a year. Bought them last Xmas as present for myself. Would really love to put them to good use.

Hello Elau, I don't think ET35 would work on a SL, and 17x7.5 on the front is going to be too small.

500 SL R129, Blue - 1991. Mini Cooper S, Works Kit Silver - 2007. Mitsubishi FTO, Silver - 1996.
For a 91/95 the standard wheel set up is as follows:
8J x 16 H 2 / offset 34mm

The Sport Package is
8J x 18 H 2 / offset 31mm (Front)
9J x 18 H 2 / offset 35mm (Front)

I'm not sure if this is the spec for all years but I suspect it is.

Regarding the width I think 7.5 and 8.5 is maybe a bit too small. Aftermarket fittings are normally much wider, up to 9.5 and 10.5, so they might look a bit skinny on such a wide car... why don't you try em, it'll only take a few minutes.

In terms of offset, the lower the number the more prblem you'll have as (I discovered) the bolts can pop through and interfere with your brake at the rear. If you put them on and hear any remote sound of anything catching (move very very slowly at first) then take em off.

Personally if I had them I would put them on and check, rather than leave them in the garage...

HK,I agree with you about the rear lights...but not the whole orange corner..
I have the old lights but with the corner in red...
I will try the dash in blue with white dials..to see the effect...
As for wheels,7.5 is definitely small for an SL...9 front and 10 rears for the perfect look..or 8.5/9.5 with spacers..depending on ET of wheels...
