SL/R129: lost power over 4k rpm CATS?
does it smell bad like eggs?
mark
BTW, usually, failing cats restrict exhaust flow like reported above. Rotten egg smell almost always means they are working, albeit harder than normal. It indicates a rich condition where excess hydrogen sulfide is retained in the cats followed by a lean condition that elevates temps high enough to burn it all off. Many cars go overly rich at WOT or close to it. Older models (pre-ODB2 especially) go rich at much smaller throttle angles. You often smell it when you drive hard enough to get the ECU to go full rich for a while and then go into cruise mode.
