Bound to appreciate in value for it's uniqueness...
You just have to find somebody competent to look after it and the parts
if needed....
I don't think you are getting your money's worth on that auction.
If I had an extra $50,000 I would buy it in a second. But I've got a daughter in college and I am thinking of taking a job that would give me a pay cut (money isn't everything, you know).
How about this? I'll give you my baby 2001 SL500 (designo, AMG wheels and body; sport suspension
with 48,000 miles and a 100,000 warranty PLUS, 30 hours of legal services (my rate is $270 per hour)? All joking aside, it appears as if you are a person of means. You sunk about $100,000 into the car? Plus you are getting another car you are spending close to $200,000 on? Maybe you can just keep it as part of your collection. Rather than just get $35,000 for it
OR maybe you will do better to donate it to a car museum or other charity and take the tax write-off. You could probably make a reasonable claim that the car is worth some percentage of all the modifications you made, and maybe get a tax write off of $75,000 or more. You are probably in about a 50% tax bracket if you live in California and you can afford those expensive toys -- so, a $75,000 deduction would net you almost as much as a sale. Plus, you'd be helping a good cause.
Those cars are very rare. Worth owning if you can afford the maintainence.
