Ashamed to say..
I would like to be able to describe my car with all the details in my profile but (dont scream) I have no idea what I have! I do know the front tires are 18's and the back 19's. Not sure what the wheels are (see pic). Not sure what the color is (obsedian black or some other?) Does it have what you call a sports kit? Can you help me just by looking at the photos? Purchased two years ago used and I absolutely love her. Kills me to do so but I put her away during the winter and proudly get around in my 1993 300E that looks and feels great.
I would love to be able to do some of the upgrade work on the SL myself, and I do enjoy detailing it (3-day process) at least twice each year. I am having a problem with the gas gauge not reading full when I fill the tank but will discuss in another thread. Im going to try and figure it out via this forum.
You will see me here often!

my guess is that it is a 1998 SL500 sport... those are typical AMG or look-alike wheels that have been chromed...
i see that you have listed as a 2001, so, 98 is wrong, but they did make them then... it looks like it is a sport b/c of the vents in the side, but the sport badge is missing...

Hey, I also have a 2001, and I have done a little research on what it came with stock and what were options. Thanks to Chris up in Canada, I also have a 2001 brouchure.
Of course your's looks great even if you don't know what it is.
I have the same wheels you have. Except yours are chromed. Mine are AMG's. I can't tell from the photos if yours are AMG's or copies.
In order to really help you out, you need to post some more pictures. Post some interior shots and a few medium close ups of each part of the body; i.e., front quarter over the wheel wells, front grill, rear, etc.
Also, look on the tire sidewalls and see what sizes they are. The sport package came standard, I think, with 35 profile in the back and 40's in the front. I don't have the other dimensions in front of me. 275/18's in the back maybe --- I can't remember.

It is a 2001 Sport Package. The tail lights give away that it's a 2001. Also, if you look closely, a black panel (sport) is just above the side skirt. The car carries an AMG body kit, and looks great.

if it is a 2001 w/ sport, then the rims would be 18 all around. but i think you are right. also, i dont even think that AMG made our(i have the same rims) in 19's

From: Adelaide, Australia. Formerly Bristol, UK.
1998 SL 600 ///AMG. 1997 SL 320. 1999 SLK 230K. 2001 BMW R850.
The rear 19" AMG style 1 wheels are from another model and spaced to suit the offset of the SL, it wouldn't come standard that way. Guess the previous owner liked the "dragster" look!
Your car has: AMG body kit, AMG style 1 wheels, MOPF II rear lights, MOPF II mirrors and looks great in black (the only colour to have).
Not much to modify there, do you have Xenon's?
