Manual Transmission r129 Sl 300 24valve

How many people out there with one of the rare 5 speed models of the Sl Convertible r129. I have a 91 300sl with this set up with 75000 original miles. Jeff in Corpus Christi, TX.

I looked at a lot of r129's when I was buying my baby, probably 15 or more in person and dozens on the internet, in LA and OC counties (So. Cal. USA) -- I did not see a single manual tranny. I was only looking for 1999's and up.

From what I've read, I think each model year had only 100 to 200 manuals shipped to USA for each year at the most. And from what I've seen, I don't believe the number is that high -- just an urban legend. If I found one, I'd buy it.

5 Speed SL

There was a 92 300 SL in my neck of the woods that the dealer could not sell.It was absolutely Flawless. No one seem to want a manual. I looked at it long and hard and thought about purchasing. However, I did not like the color.Problem is: come time to resell, everyone wants an automatic. As far as I know, that car is still in the showroom.

Where in what showroom and what color. From what I have read. They only brought 166 of these between 1990 and 1992. I have never seen any other years and cant find anyone that will tell me other wise. Jeff

My 300SL-24 had a manual 5 speeder...unfortunately it was converted to
an auto [4 speed] when I bought it....manuals are indeed very rare and make
the 300 faster and more fun to drive.....enjoy it....

www.cars.com has one for sale in Seattle, Washington USA. $14,000 1991 300SL w/ about 150,000 miles on it. The dealer claims it is one of only "about 200" imported.

Some of the listings specify "manual" or "automanual" but further investigation revels them to be just the automatic.

that sounds about right

I just wish there was somewere we could go to find out the reale number of official imported. It would also be nice to meet some other enthusiasts or collectors with the same set up. I attached a picture but its not of my car someone elses. Jeff

I have a 1990 with the manual tranny, bought it in '99 with 60k, just passt 100k last fall. Pretty happy with the car, although it could use a bit more power.

More power

Just wait for some idiot to wrap a C36 around a telephone pole and then BUy that car at aucion or ebay. If you get the car for a couple of grand then you can pull the engine and wireing harness and install it into the car. Then you would have a little more Pep. Try 278 horse. Jeff

pictures are in

Remember the wheels That I have at the end of this series of pictures are on loan but if you want them I can get them for 1000 dollars. Just it will cost about 1200 for the tires. The rear tires are 285-25-20. My wheels did not come in yet so I have these for free until I get my 3 piece racing DCRs. Jeff enjoy.

bad short term memory

Thats all just forget all the time. I dont do anything computer related for several days or weeks then I hit it hard again. I just have too many cars and projects all the time. Im the bussiest person I know without a job. Instead of attacking me how about some complements on my photography or my car. I guess the other reason is some people wont have the opportunity to see pictures if I just post them in one place. For example if you load up a picture right here and now you can load up that picture under a different discussion. The other reason is When you 0wn as many cars and mercedes as I do you may have to have discussions and share pics in other areas. Remember I own more cars than fingers so Its tuff for me to keep up sometimes. JJ

I saw a Sl65 coming out from the dealer when I went to pick up my car. You have to love those exhaust and engine sound.

Do you have a chance to take the 65 out?

NOt sure but

I have seen the convertible model befor this one with a manual transmission from AMG. Lots of them were imported to Canada and Japan. We got more 6 cylinder variations here. THere is a 280 sel on ebay right now with a 4 speed manual. What you could do is have getrag make you one. The same company that makes this tranmission that comes in my car is the same company that makes the 6 speed corvette transmissions. Just got to find out if they make them. A custom tranmission could run about 7000 bucks. Im waiting for a c36 engine to put in and I will have 272 horses. Or I may put a supercharger on for about 4000 bucks. Oh and your other question on the signature I havnt figured it out yet been so busy. JJ

The final look

Here is the picture of the Rims that I purchased. They are 20 inch DCR 3 piece forged alloy wheels. Very expensive and very light. If Anyone wants a set I bought a second set at a discount. You can check the prices at dcrwheels.com and see they charge about 1300 for each rim. I will sell a set of 4 already painted exactly like mine for 4200 plus shipping. They are 10inch wide in the rear and 9 inch wide in the front. And Mary says thanks for the complement. Later. JJ
