Collector car insurance
Was just noticing on another thread someone mentioned about wanting it to be April so their insurance would start again. It reminded me of the days when I used to swap cars on and off active status on my insurance to save money in the off season. That was, until I discovered Grundy Collector car insurance.
I used to pay ~$900 year to insure my 1990 XJS V12 Convertible. With Grundy I pay ~$200 a year. It's an unlimited mileage policy, the only restriction being I'm only allowed "pleasure use" of the vehicle (can't drive it to work, don't take it on daily errands, etc.) Of course, it's basically an honor system, so unless you get creamed in the office or mall parking lot i don't suppose anyone could prove where you were going if you did have a problem. The other plus is that it is "stated value" insurance, so you pay a rate based on the agreed value of your vehicle. In the case of my 1992 500SL I have her insured for $20k at a cost of ~$300 year. In the event of a total loss, that is the payout I would recover.
In fact, I have my '90 Jag XJS Conv't, a '76 Jag XJ12C, and my '92 500SL insured with a stated total value of about $50k for ~$600 year.
I highly recommend Grundy and would be interested in hearing about other folks who have collector policies to compare features/rates.
