If you can, take the side road to Death Valley
Mark:
If you have the oppurtunity, get off the freeway at Baker and head out to Death Valley . . . I did it about 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, and there was little traffic on a VERY fun road. Lots of long sweeper turns and so forth. Then head towards Vegas on the back roads from Death Valley. It's 112 miles out to D.V., but it should add only about 2.5 hours to your trip. And it is way fun.

Directions to Death (Valley).
Mark:
Okay, get off I-15 in Baker, California, home of the World's biggest (non-rectal) thermomator and Bun Boy Resturant. You cannot miss Baker. It is small, but it is the only town for miles and miles and miles.
Fill up your Goose (that sounds sick) with gas, because you ain't gonna see a station for a while. As far as I know, there are only two ways out of Baker: 1. Get back on the freeway; 2. Take the road to Death Valley.
The Death Valley Vistor Center is 112 miles from Baker. It consists of an outhouse and a bulliten board. Oh, and a trash can. You can see pictures of it, and a trip report from an old post I made:
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-r129/125410-silver-chariot-flying-through-desert.html
Baker is about 175 miles from you, give or take.

Ignore the time estimates on Mapquest. I made it to D.V. from Baker in about 1.7 hours -- please don't consider that a challenge, okay? I don't want you in an accident. Just saying that it won't take you near so long as mapquest says. I left Baker at 7:30 a.m. Sunday so the road was nearly empty, and even though it was August, it was not too hot, so I didn't melt my tires on the road.
I took an easy drive to Vegas from D.V., even stopped at Wallmart to pick up some Armor All glass wipes, and was at the Wynn before noon.
Hey . . . where do the rich folks like your parents stay in Vegas?

The Wynn Is Gorgeous. You should check out the Ferrari/Maserati Dealership there.....
I stayed there one night for the hell of it..even though we own a home in Vegas. I think we did it so we didnt have to drive the car around and drop it off at 50 different valets, in one day, just one...i think we stayed in the tower salon suite or tower suite salon, no..tower salon! oh i dont know...but it was beautiful...have a safe drive and enjoy vegas!

A trip though the desert seems like so much fun.
Will you be traveling on your own? Or will you have a pasenger?
Make sure you tires are 5 psi over the recommended. For high speed cruising.
Let us know if you hit the 155 mph limiter.

ok ok ok!
its been a very long day.
fun parts:
the drive was awsome, good wether, top down the whole way. lots of thumbs-up from passing cars.
keept her around 80-90 MPH, did some maths for the MPG and 85 was a good speed.
top speed for the trip was GPS 116, the spedo read 120 but i guess that that is normal for spedos to be unaccurate at higher speeds. and i need new tires in like 2K miles.
in vegas i saw O, and went shooting. that was awsome.
more details later, sleep time now.
p.s the goose ran strong. BUT this mornin, i started her, and there was a terrable "whine" coming from the engine. and i poped the hood and it turns out that i was about an inch under the min. P/S fluid level, so i must have a major leak in that o well, the car needs to go in anyway.
pix soon!
