SL/R129: Red Calipers

Red Calipers
Anyway I needed to rust proof my calipers, so I decided to paint them. Was originally going to paint them black, but a friend of mine convinced me to go red. They are heat resistant to 950 degrees. Overall, I am very impressed with the look.

It takes a good portion of the day to do it. The first issue is lifting the car off the ground. I used four jacks to do this (which I don't recommend since I bent one of the jacks-lol) along with very thick sturdy blocks of wood to prop up the car. I strongly advise not doing this and finding another way, another safer way. Maybe an auto shop will do it for you if you dont have the time.
Regardless, once propped up, you use the included brake cleaner to remove any grime/build-up on the calipers. Let it sit for a few minutes then wipe them clean. (The cleaner is hazardous so be sure to wear gloves and a mask.) Once the calipers are prepped, you then prepare the paint (instructions are very simple and easy to follow) and apply 2-3 even coats (I applied four) allowing 15 minutes before each coat. Once done, you let the paint cure for about 2 hours (I left it for 3+ to be sure it thouroughly dried). After that, you cannot drive your car for 24 hours, to ensure that the paint sets properly. The Product is G2 Caliper Paint, and the guys over at the wheel/brake forum informed me about it. For about $50 shipped, this is an awesome yet simple product to use, and it adds a very nice personal touch to your car.

Thanks guys. The red seems more subtle in person. Intitially, I was going to paint them black, but a friend convinced me to go with red, because the car would be too black: I already have black exterior, black interior, black lights...just a nice contrast to the car, IMHO. 
. I'll post up some photos when I wash/wax the car this weekend.

Remember the wheels That I have at the end of this series of pictures are on loan but if you want them I can get them for 1000 dollars. Just it will cost about 1200 for the tires. The rear tires are 285-25-20. My wheels did not come in yet so I have these for free until I get my 3 piece racing DCRs. Jeff enjoy.
