I have 107,000 miles on my 1999 SL500.

I have owned it since March 2003 when it had 45k on the clock. I keep it very well serviced and the only major expense has been new shocks at 95k and new cats at 105k. Next month will see a big service, including all filters (oil, air, cabin, fuel, transmission), new spark plugs, and new ATF.

I wonder whether it is worth changing the power steering fluid, rear diff oil, and convertible top hydraulic fluid, not to mention the timing gear. Any views?

I'm currently looking @ 2 SL600s with around 90K miles. This helps a lot; thanx. I have another question but I'll ask in another thread.

36,000 on my 2002

The hard top wouldn't attach after I left it off for two years...needed a shot of lube spray on one actuator.

Otherwise flawless.

Warranty just expired, so I will be supercharging kleeman-style, unless I hear good results from a guy with same car doing his at HPS.

OK time for some figures:

Average of 22 respondents so far = 83,433 miles.

Highest mileage (by quite a margin) ... EsEl at 187,000 miles. If EsEl parked his car right now It would take RedMongoosE about three years to catch up !

Second highest mileage mbman002 at 124,000 mile ... with quite a few R129 drivers on his tail!

I think there must be even higher mileage SL's out there. Daily drivers from 1991? Any one know some one who is not on the forum, that has very high mileage on a R129?

You always hear of E Class taxi cabs with 500,000 miles on them. Just curious if that longevity was built into the R129.

That's some serious driving! How has the reliability of the '94 SL kept up as you went from 30K to 98K?

Wow, you guys are all very conservative on your mileage. Keep in mind. Your car may actually last longer than the current SL. I would believe that your car will easily last 200,000 miles even in slightly spirited driving.

Gotta keep on racking on those miles.

I got a 1994 SL600 (light diamond metallic with navy interior and soft top) in December 1995 with 23,500 miles on it. By the time I sold it in June 2003 there were 102,000 miles on the odo. That averages to 10,500 miles per year, but that is somewhat misleading as the car spent 15 months if not more laid up for repairs after a shunt and then the dreaded wiring harness problem, so the annual average when the car was actually driven is closer to 13,000 miles.

I just added the (8) respondent mileage from over a year ago to the statistics. Those cars have higher mileage now, but I do not know how much.

So concidering all (29) current respondents and the (8) year + old respondents ... the average of (37) R129 as far as I know is 76,960 miles.

58,000 and change. My same year (2000) E430 has 136,000. Guess which one is my daily driver! Both going strong!

1996 SL600 - 100% Stock
I'm between 46 anf 47k miles on my 1996 SL600. I have started driving it more regularly over the past year or so. I think last year is was under 37k.
