These MB's are rock solid
Man, I went for a drive yesterday on some back country roads...and had her near-red lined numerous times, the temp gauge was pretty high...and she still purrs perfectly. These are built to last, built to handle it..
Another thing I really noticed and appreciate about the MB is that the automatic transmission is soo smooth - shifts from first to second are unnoticeable unless you listen/look at the tachometer.
But - shes got about 68K miles on her, with atleast 68K more to come!
If I drove my Taurus as hard as I drive her, I think it might fall apart.

Sadly, it probably won't change. I read an article a few years ago that explained what happened. The short version is that in days of old MB engineers could miss deadlines and delay the lauch of the cars AND they could go overbudget and the car would be priced accordingly..those days are long gone.
From reading the article I got the impression that MB used to run by the engineers, now it's run by the bean counters.
