Installing 3rd (strip) brake light
Hi everyone,
I am a newbie posting here - and am asking for help already!
My 1993 SL500 does not have the eye-level brake light fitted, and when I brought it to Western Australia the WA Dept of Motor Vehicles dictated that I now had to retro-fit a third brake light.
I have purchased the OE strip light, and will have friends at a body shop fit it. The problem is this - I do not have any close-up pictures of the original light fitted in an SL to show the body shop guys.
I would be greatly obliged if sonmone could post close-up (or 2) of the strip light, from the outside, as well as from the inside (the latter by peeling back interior trunk liner first). Or - pictures might be a big ask - can someone DESCRIBE how the strip lense "meets" the metal? ie is the light flush with,or proud (higher) from, or recessed (lower) from where it meets the exterior metal?
Thanks in advance... Steve.
PS in case you are wondering, the SL's are not very common here in Perth, or I would check it out myself... S.

You do know that these lights are for a pre-formed boot and not the older panel? Are you going to cut the boot lid to install a MB OEM brake light strip?
I would of thought it cheaper to buy the correct panel, as apposed to a body shop modifying the original panel...
How much have they quoted?
